a ceremony to let go of old emotions
Learning about emotions and how to be with them.
One of the key aspects of our recovery programme is learning about emotions and how we can experience them calmly without falling into old patterns.
We teach our residents effective methods for dealing with difficult emotions based on the system of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT).

Horticultural therapy
Our horticultural therapy offers the chance to spend time outdoors, working with the land in a relaxed and supportive way.
With access to extensive gardens and polytunnels, residents can take part in a range of activities, from planting and growing to general outdoor tasks.
This can be a grounding and rewarding part of the programme, offering space to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy being outside.

Key worker check-ins
Each resident has a key worker from the Recovery Team who they check-in with at least weekly to assess their progress and discuss anything which may be on their mind.

Our Bushcraft team
Bushcraft
Bushcraft has become a popular part of life at Brynawel, offering time outdoors to learn practical skills and connect with the natural environment.
Led by our qualified instructor, these sessions often take place around the outdoor shelter and can include fire-lighting, simple cooking, and working with natural materials. It’s a relaxed and grounding way to spend time, often bringing a quiet sense of achievement and enjoyment.

Physical activity can play an important role in recovery — whether that’s rebuilding strength, improving fitness, or simply getting used to moving again. There’s no pressure or expectation, just the opportunity to go at your own pace.

Connection and independence
Maintaining contact with family and loved ones, alongside gradually rebuilding independence

Family visits
We warmly welcome visits from family and loved ones as part of the recovery process.
Visiting takes place on Saturdays between 1pm and 5pm, offering a regular opportunity to stay connected and spend time together in a supportive environment.

Phones and
staying connected
While we encourage residents to limit phone use so they can focus on their recovery, residents can keep their phones in their rooms to stay in touch with their family and loved ones.
Some choose to hand in their phones during the week to focus on their recovery.

Time off-site and independence
There are opportunities throughout the week to leave the site accompanied by staff, including trips to local shops and nearby areas.
Towards the later stages their stay, we encourage residents to spend time off-site unsupervised, such as days out or weekends away with family, to help them gradually reconnect with everyday life.

If you have any questions, you’re very welcome to give us a call.
We’re always happy to talk things through. If you'd like to see Brynawel for yourself we will be happy to show you around. Many people tell us that they feel more peaceful as soon as they walk in through the gates.
