Dr Marc Penny MStJ
Chairman
An experienced transformation leader with a strong track record across health, public and charity sectors, focused on improving outcomes for vulnerable communities. Serving as Chair of Brynawel, Trustee of St John Ambulance Cymru and NED at Caredig Housing.

Col. Phil Hubbard
OBE DL
Vice Chairman
Born in Canterbury and enjoyed a 38 year military career. He is married to Rosy and has three children and currently serves as Vice Lord-Lieutenant for the County of Mid Glamorgan.
Natalie Garfield
Treasurer - Chair of Finance and Risk Committee
An experienced Finance Director with a strong foundation in manufacturing and extensive experience at Capita Plc. She led financial strategy across sectors including Local Government, Education, Health, and Private Sector – driving value, efficiency, and profitability across the UK through strategic pricing and stakeholder collaboration.

Rachel Dancey
Trustee
Managing Director of De Courceys Manor, a luxury wedding and events venue near Cardiff. A director since 2016, she plays a key role in leading the business and delivering high-quality, personalised hospitality and events.


Prof. Peter Vaughan
CBE CStJ QPM
Trustee
Retired as Chief Constable of South Wales Police in 2017, having also held senior national policing and criminal justice leadership roles. He is Director of Policing and Security at the University of South Wales and has served as Lord-Lieutenant for the County of Mid Glamorgan since 2019.

Helen Northmore
Trustee - Chair of People Committee
Twenty five years of experience in business development, political advocacy, commercial partnerships, stakeholder engagement, policy development and media. Currently delivering AI transformation at the UK Health Security Agency, A track record in boards and governance, having been previously a Non-Executive Director of Hafod Housing Association and Swim Wales.
Dawn Jones
Board Secretary - Chair of Governance Committee
An experienced board-level and business leader with over two decades of experience across health, care, housing and regulated commercial sectors. She has founded and led businesses alongside senior executive and non-executive roles, bringing strong expertise in governance, risk, strategy and sustainable growth.

Dr Kishore Kale
Trustee
A psychiatrist practising in Wales, known for his work as a Consultant within NHS adult mental health services. He has held clinical leadership roles, including acting Clinical Director at Cwm Taf University Health Board, and has been involved in clinical governance, teaching, and postgraduate psychiatric training.


Hayden Osbourne
Safeguarding Trustee
Haydn has worked within Social Care all of his professional life. He is currently the Managing Director and Responsible Individual for a specialist care provider that operates services throughout South Wales.

Jeremy Prosser
Trustee
Over 55 years’ experience as a building services consulting engineer across the public and private sectors, bringing design and project management expertise to the Brynawel Estates team. He continues in an advisory role on energy conservation and decarbonisation, and has a keen interest in wildlife and landscape photography, supporting the National Trust and RSPB.

Lois Park
Lois is Head of Engagement at Transport for Wales, where she leads on community and stakeholder engagement strategy for major transport programmes. With over 15 years' experience in communications across the transport, utilities and infrastructure sectors.

Darren Quelch
Darren is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of South Wales and the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust Drug and Alcohol Care Team. He has previously worked as a medical doctor, has experience in research, quality improvement and service evaluation of front line drug and alcohol treatment services.

Ruth Jones MBE
We are delighted to share that Ruth Jones MBE has become a Patron of Brynawel House.
Ruth is someone everyone admires, not just for her incredible talent, but for her warmth, humour and deep sense of humanity. As a well-known and much-loved actor, author and producer she tells real stories about real people, with kindness and honesty, and that feels like a perfect fit for who we are and what we stand for.
Having Ruth support Brynawel means the world to us. It helps shine a light on recovery, challenge, stigma, and reminds people that change is possible with the right support around you.

Altaf Hussain MS
Altaf has been part of the Brynawel family for many years, and his connection to the charity runs deep. He first joined the Board of Trustees in 2018, serving as Chair until the end of 2021.
In January 2022, Altaf became a Patron of Brynawel, continuing his support with generosity and commitment. He remains actively engaged in our work and has contributed in practical and meaningful ways.

Huw Irranca Davies MS
Huw has long been a dedicated public servant, representing the people of Ogmore for many years as both Member of Parliament and Member of the Senedd. Throughout his career in public life, he has championed communities across South Wales and worked tirelessly to support wellbeing, equality and opportunity.
As Patron, Huw offers Brynawel his steadfast support and encouragement. His understanding of the challenges facing individuals, families and communities across Wales aligns closely with our mission. We are grateful for his continued interest in our work and proud to have his support as we help people rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.


Professor Jean White CBE
Ambassador
Jean White, a distinguished nurse and educator, has lived in Mid Glamorgan for nearly 40 years. She trained in Swansea and worked as a nurse in Wales and London. She was Chief Nursing Officer for Wales from 2010 to 2021. In 2023, she was appointed High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan.

Currently, she is a Visiting Professor at the University of South Wales, an Independent Council Member at Bangor University, and a Trustee for various organizations. Her honors include a CBE in 2017, membership in the Order of St John, and recognition as one of the 75 most influential UK nurses by Nursing Times in 2023.

The results achieved through the work of the wonderful staff and volunteers is impressive and lifechanging.
